Die berühmte österreichische Experimantalmusikerin Mia Zabelka tritt im HaL auf!
Mia Zabelka ist E-Violinistin und Komponistin und lebt und arbeitet in der Südsteiermark und in Wien. Sie studierte Violine/ Konservatorium der Stadt Wien bei Alexander Arenkov, Komposition, elektroakustische Musik/ Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien bei Roman Haubenstock Ramati, Kurt Schwertsik und Dieter Kaufmann, Musikwissenschaft und Publizistik/ Universität Wien; Studienaufenthalte in Köln, Berlin und New York.
Seit über zehn Jahren beschäftigt sie sich mit der Entwicklung experimenteller Improvisationstechniken mit Electric Violin und Stimme. Es geht ihr um die Auslotung des Verhältnisses von Körper, Gestik, Klang und Raum. Dabei dienen auch immer wieder elektronische Geräte und Computer zur Erzeugung erweiteter Klangspektren. Mit Experimentierfreude und körperlicher Unmittelbarkeit arbeitet sie an musikalischen Bilder, deren Vielschichtigkeit und gleichzeitige Transparenz ihr explizites Anliegen sind. Sie gilt als eine der führenden Vertreter der Musikperformance und der elektroakustischen, improvisierten Musik in Österreich und arbeitet gerne interdisziplinär, indem sie unterschiedliche Kunstbereiche – Theater, Performance, Literatur, Musik, Neue Medien miteinander vernetzt.

Mia Zabelka’s new solo „Project Z“ focuse on the development of experimental improvisational techniques with the voice and violin, a process she calls „automatic playing“. She explores the relationships between the body, gesture, sound, machines and space using also live electronics to expand the electro-acoustic sonic spectrum. She creates musical imageries in an ongoing process of experimentation and physical immediacy resulting in a melodic complexity and simultaneous transparency characteristic of her sound language.
Mia Zabelka works with the sound on and of her own body using small contact microphones applied to her skin and hair, and also incorporates sounds from inside the body, which she records using medical equipment and transforms into electro-acoustic compositions. She combines these elements of body sound in her live performances with her improvisations on violin and with her voice. De-constructing and re-constructing the sonic potential of her instruments – electric violin, electronic devices, laptop and voice – Mia Zabelka has developed an idiosyncratic sonic language experimenting with all kinds of varieties and layers to explore new musical territories. Her violin and her voice and body are being transformed into sonic bodies which are harmonic and original, screaming, poetic, explosive and carefully designed at the same time.
