Liav Mizrahi in dialogue with Tal Alon

Liav Mizrahi in conversation about the exhibition Who by Fire: On Israel with Tal Alon. The talk will be held in English and will be moderated by Dr. Marc Wellmann, artistic director of Haus am Lützowplatz (HaL).

 

Liav Mizrahi * 1977 in Haifa lives and works in Tel Aviv. Studied 1999–2002 at Haifa University, Department of Fine Arts, Haifa, 2002–2003 art school,‘Midrasha’- Beit-Berl, 2004–2005 guest student, Kunstakademie Düsseldorf with Prof. Herbert Brandl, 2006–2008 Bezalel, Academy of Arts and Design, Jerusalem. In addition to his artistic and curatorial practice, Liav Mizrahi works as an educator and sees himself as a political activist. Notable solo exhibitions include Community gallery for Contemporary Art,Tel Aviv (2012), Dana Gallery at Yad Murdechi Kibbutz (2015), Benyamini Contemporary Ceramics Center,Tel Aviv (2019), Alfred gallery, Tel Aviv (2021), and Mishkan Museum of Art, Ein Harod (2022). He has long maintained ties with Germany, including a 2005 Bremen Art Fellowship, which was followed by a solo exhibition at Galerie Herold in Bremen. For the Georg Kolbe Museum in Berlin, he curated the exhibition Body without Body: Body Images in Contemporary Israeli Sculpture (2011/2012). In 2018 he was nominated for the Paula Modersohn Becker Prize in conjunction with participation in the Great Art Show in Worpswede. Liav Mizrahi has organized various festivals and exhibitions in Israel such as the Sub-culture festival at the LGBTQ Center in Tel Aviv in 2020 and „Beuys, Beuys, Beuys“ in 2015, also in Tel Aviv. In parallel with the exhibition „Who by Fire: On Israel“, a site-specific installation by Liav Mizrahi will be on view at Salon Avitall – Jewish Center for Arts and Culture (June 12–July 7, 2023).

Tal Alon is the founder and editor of SPITZ, Hebrew magazine in Berlin. Born and raised in Tel Aviv, Tal moved to Berlin in 2009 together with her husband and their two boys. Back in Israel she worked in leading editing positions in the Israeli media. Tal holds a BA in History and Political Science and MA in Political Science majoring in Political Communication, both from Tel Aviv University.
